Due to population vaccination morbidity rate of viral hepatitis in the Murmansk Region became more than 9 times less during the last 5 years. Chronic viral hepatitis and modern ways of its preliminary treatment were discussed at the regional conference of Murmansk infectious disease physicians and famous Russian scientists.
Murmansk Minister of Health Arkadiy Rubin asserted that the problem of viral hepatitis is quite urgent for the Murmansk Region. Population vaccination helps to lower down morbidity rate of viral hepatitis. At present such cases are very rare. However the incidence is rather high.
Professor Sergey Mukomolov, the chief of viral hepatitis laboratory of Saint-Petersburg epidemiology and microbiology research institute also emphasized the problem relevance.
Chronic hepatitis may cause liver cirrhosis or cancer. These diseases require in-time diagnosis and treatment. The main preventative measure is vaccination which helps to lower down morbidity rate of viral hepatitis in the region.
— There is a problem of refuse from vaccination. Due to it diphtheria epidemic occurred in the 90s which led to a great amount of deaths. The same may happen with other infections, — says professor Mukomolov. – Vaccination helps to eliminate infections, but if we stop it, the infection will return. One should not be afraid of vaccination as it is recommended by World Health Organization. It means that this measure is quite efficient.
During the conference physicians discussed the problems of medical treatment of people suffering from chronic viral hepatitis, epidemiology, laboratory diagnosis and hepatitis B precaution in the Murmansk Region. They also discussed treatment of people suffering from liver cirrhosis having viral aetiology, liver transplantation in Russia and abroad.
